Walking-Stitching With
Walking-stitching-with enables an active response to the social, cultural, economic, political, individual and collective transmaterialities of place. It is a meaningful act that seeks to form and build connections between the body and the outside world. Walking-stitching-with is an active and intentional entanglement of human, non-human, organic and inorganic matter through participatory collaboration and co-creation.
Walking and making with others are social encounters, ones that privilege connections and interactions between people. Both walking and making, as previously discussed, create space for reflective and critical thinking. Walking and making with others, similarly create space – space for conversation and shared experience. Through talking, sharing and engaging in dialogue, participants in a walking / stitching activity can become involved in each other’s lives, thinking-with and through others as part of a shared experience. Shared stories invite others to share, conversations become meaningful and often explore topics seemingly far removed from the original act of stitching or walking.
